According to the most recent AFCARS report of the 118,000 children and youth waiting to be adopted:

  •  52% are male
  • 48% are female
  • 23% are African American
  • 21% are Hispanic
  • 44% are white
  • Average age is 8 years old
  • 11 % are between 15-17 years old
  • Average time in foster care is 21 months

At CASA of Monterey County, we train and supervise community volunteers who give their voices to children in Monterey County’s foster care system. With a CASA on a case, these at-risk children and youth are half as likely to re-enter the foster care system, and find safe, permanent homes, oftentimes months sooner than children without a CASA volunteer. There are many ways you can give back in honor of National Adoption Awareness Month. Consider becoming a CASA and help more of Monterey County’s children find their forever home. Unable to volunteer? Consider donating or helping us spread the word by sharing our posts on Facebook and Twitter!
